TheCoffee, The Clove,
The Concept.

Coffee & Clove specializes in creating hand-poured candles using spent (or used) coffee grinds from local specality coffee shops. Clove, is a spice also known as kruidnagel in Dutch, and the two mixed together make a pleasant, subtle scent that is not only refreshing, and order neutralizing, but vastly healthier for you then strongly fragranced and perfumed candles and sprays.

Maybe you’ve already started making small changes for less ingredients in your food, reaching for healthier options. Seeking out non-toxic ingredients for your home like soaps, detergents, and fabrics. Coffee & Clove brings that together, in a novel idea mixed with quality and collaboration with other local businesses. We want your home and life to smell fresh, natural, and for you to feel good about what you're being exposed to, embracing the moment every time you light a candle.

The Coffee

Coffee straight from the cafe

Is exactly that! Real coffee, or 'spent' coffee as we say- is the grinds that are left over after your fresh cup was made. After the water drips through the filter, or your shot is pulled from the machine, typically this ends up in the gft to be composted, or waste.

These real coffee grinds get dried up and given a second use, as they still smell wonderful, is a safe scent for everyone, and even beneficail for your indoor air!

The Clove

Organically sourced clove (both powder and whole) is also known as kruidnagel here in Belgium- but it contains endless benefits that have been sought after for centeries. Its warm spicy and comforting smell creates a calming, purifying effect when burned, relax the mood and atmosphere, as well as deter pests.

All encompasing beneficial ingredient

The Concept

The idea conceptualized

It started from being fed up with all the mosquitos in the house during the summer. I learned that burning coffee grinds (often seen outside at some restraunts or bakeries) keeps the pests away. However, this wasn't the best option for our indoor space, so I began experimenting with turning it into a candle! It evolved over time to something much more encompasing (.. and no guarantees for the pests) But using organic and recycled ingredients got me really excited to bring my naturally smelling, non-toxic candle to life!
The more I worked on the formulation, optimized wick size pouring temperatures, and I was thrilled to be reusing the coffee from my favorite local cafes. I truely know how much healthier the faint, natural scents are for you than synthetic and petroleum based fragrances and perfumes.
