Strong smelling candles usually use synthetic fragrances and paraffin wax which, in order to smell so strongly, also release these chemicals when burned. Such as phthalates, parabens, and volatile organic compounds- all act as endocrine disruptors, effecting your hormones, causing headaches and even dizziness. Therefor, naturally scented candles might not be as strong, but their light scent, and benefits are far greater!

Yes, this is completely normal! As your candle burns down, you're left with some of the excess coffee grinds. The coffee itself can burn and you can still light them . In some ways, this is the natural part of the candle, where maybe most of the soy wax has already melted and burned off. Coffee can still be lit (and where the idea began in the first place! To keep the bugs away) but in a safe, and monitored environment (like any candle should be) you can still enjoy the smell, the flickering, and the natural, non-toxic concept.
